From 1828 to the end of the nineteenth century, the Delaware and Hudson Canal carried anthracite, the fuel of the American Industrial Revolution, from Pennsylvania’s coal fields to the cities of New York State. Its long forgotten history is told in a few museums along its corridor and in books.
David Barber, the author of this trail guide, has spent many years walking along its towpath and exploring its remains. This book, with maps prepared by his wife Audrey, makes the canal accessible to both history enthusiasts as well as day hikers.
